Dear Lily

August 5, 2010
How freakin’ adorable you are. I am so happy to have randomly stumbled across the ad trying to find you a good home. My girls absolutely love you, you are the perfect size for no matter what size home we have, you are well mannered, house trained, and so gentle with my babies. Today, August 5th, 2010, has been a seriously great day thanks to you.

Lily is lucky to be alive, and I’m not joking! A lady that worked at one of the humane societies in town rescued her. She had played with her and interacted with her many times while Lily was pregnant with her puppies, even felt the puppies moving! How Crazy! One day she came to work to see Lily in the back of the truck that takes the animals who’s time is up to be euthanized, and she begged them to let her take Lily home and foster her.

She had fostered Lily since March, helped her when she had her puppies, and found them all loving homes. Lily was the last she found a home, since she was looking for just the right family to give her the love and attention she deserves. I feel badly for Lily, because she can’t be over a year and a half and they are pretty sure that was her second litter of pups. So much to have gone thru (not only the litters, but being homeless, being a stray, then being locked in a kennel and doomed for the needle) in such a short life.
I stumbled across her ad while browsing Craiglist. I probably shouldn’t have been on there because we do not have our house yet, but I just wanted to look. Lol. I couldn’t resist finding out more information about her.

It’s strange once I got there, the lady said she felt that it was meant to be for our family to have Lily. My father (for those who do not know) just passed away May 11th, the day after Mother’s day, and her father just passed away on Father’s day. What strange coincidences! Not only that, when we walked into her home, Boogerface pointed and loudly stated “Mommy! We have that blanket!”, referring to a red, white, and blue American flag throw that was neatly folded across their sectional. She was right, we had even brought that same blanket with us for Lily to use on the ride home. That blanket had been the lady’s father’s. Which, I am sure isn’t a huge deal to most, but sometimes it’s the little things in life that mean the most to some, especially those who have lost many loved ones and know first hand that it truly is the little things that make life worth living.
Her name wasn’t originally Lily, that is the name Boogerface gave her, which happened to be the name of the lady’s granddaughter, and those were the flowers I brought Dad in the hospital before he passed away. Needless to say, and may seem silly to some, but Lily is a welcome addition to our family, a much needed blessing amidst some recent hard times.
